Assamese short film ‘Xogun’ finds space at New York festival

Assamese short film ‘Xogun’ (Vulture), adapted from the much-acclaimed short story bearing the same name by noted writer-journalist Manoj Kumar Goswami and scripted and directed by national award winner Utpal Borpujari, has been selected for the 21st New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF).

Produced by IFT India, the film is among 58 feature films, documentaries and short films in 15 languages from across India to be selected for NYIFF, one of the most prestigious Indian film festivals globally, which will be held during June 4-15 virtually because of the pandemic.
‘Xogun’ had earlier won the Best Film award in the short film competition of the 13th Guwahati International Film Festival organised by the Gauhati Cine Club and was screened at the 14th Signs Festival in Thiruvanathapuram, considered among the most prestigious short film and documentary festivals in India.

Whitley Awards 2021 won by Nuklu Phom of Nagaland

The Whitley Award is called the “Green Oscar Award.” In 2021, Nuklu Phom of Nagaland won the Whitley Award. He is the only Indian to get the award.

Nuklu Phom is creating a “biodiversity peace corridor”. The main goal of expanding the Yaongyimchen Community Biodiversity Zone. In addition to protecting wildlife and environmental protection, he also expanded his work to health, education and microfinance.

He founded the Lemasachenlok Society. It strives to make locals sensitive to Amur Falcons. It has established three protected areas to help increase the number of falcons in its habitat. Nuklu Phom is known as the “Amur Falcon of Nagaland”.

Russia to Launch its Own Space Station

Large Area Certification Scheme Andaman and Nicobar

Advanced Chaff Technology by DRDO

Advanced Chaff Technology been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation to guard the naval ships against enemy missile attack. It is any other step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Chaff is a digital countermeasure technological know-how used by using militaries international to defend naval ships or other sensitive objectives from radar and radio frequency (RF) guiding mechanisms of the enemy missile.

The chaff rockets deployed in the air mirror as multiple aims for the missile training structures and deflecting adversary missiles, hence protecting their own assets.

DRDO has indigenously developed three editions of the fundamental science, namely Short-Range Chaff Rocket (SRCR), Medium-Range Chaff Rocket (MRCR) and Long-Range Chaff Rocket (LRCR).

Gk bit : Difference between Chaff and Flares:

Both chaff & flares are defensive countermeasures deployed by using navy aircraft. The cause is to confuse radar-guided or infrared-guided anti-plane missiles fired so that they may want to be diverted.

The Chaff is composed of many small aluminium or zinc lined fibres saved on-board the plane in tubes. In case the plane feels threatened by means of any radar monitoring missiles, chaff is ejected into the turbulent wake of air at the back of the plane.

Flares on being fired grant an alternate strong IR (Infrared) source to heat-seeking anti-air missiles. Thus they are lured away from the aircraft.
