Manchester City have been crowned Premier League champions

  • Manchester City have been crowned Premier League champions for the second consecutive season after a 4-1 win over Brighton
  • EPL is contested by 20 clubs and the Seasons run from starting in August to ending in May.

 

India voiced for ‘unbiased’ assessment of trade policies at WTO

  • The existing system, developed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), has significant quantitative and qualitative flaws
  • India has come up with a “better and more reliable” mechanism to measure restrictiveness in the services trade, and has approached China, Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey and South Africa to highlight the importance of the new system.

 

India to co-chair Consultative Group (CG) of Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR)

  • India is unanimously chosen as co-chair of the Consultative Group (CG) of Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) for the fiscal year 2020.
  • GFDRR is a global partnership that helps develoUnited Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) today conferred Sasakawa Award 2019 for Disaster Risk Reduction to Dr. Pramod Kumar Mishra, Additional Principal Secretary to Prime Minister of India.
  • ping countries better understand and reduce their vulnerability to natural hazards and climate change.
  • India became member of CG of GFDRR in 2015.

 

NATIONAL

DRDO Successfully Conducts Flight Test of ABHYAS

  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted successful flight test of ABHYAS – High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) from Interim Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha .
  • The flight test was tracked by various RADARS & Electro Optic Systems and proved its performance in fully autonomous way point navigation mode.
  • The configuration of ABHYAS is designed on an in-line small gas turbine engine and uses indigenously developed MEMS based navigation system for its navigation and guidance.

 

International Army Scout Masters Competition 2019

  • International Army Scout Masters Competition as a part of International Army Games will be organised under the aegis of Konark Corps at Jaisalmer from 24 July to 17 August 2019.
  • The International Army Scout Masters Competition will be conducted in five stages, which will test the overall skills of Mechanised Infantry Scouts in simulated battle field scenarios
  • India will be conducting the Army Scout Masters Competition for the first time as part of the International Army Games. It is also for the first time that an Indian team will participate in this competition

 

Anti-submarine warfare shallow watercraft (ASW SWC)

  • The Ministry of Defence has given the contract to Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) for building 8 anti-submarine warfare shallow watercraft (ASW SWC) for the Indian Navy.
  • This contract was signed on 29th April, 2019 by Joint Secretary and Acquisition Manager (Maritime Systems) Ravi Kant on behalf of Ministry of Defence and S S Dogra, Director (Finance), on behalf of GRSE, in New Delhi.
  • The first ship as per the agreement is to be delivered within 42 months from the date of signing of the contract and subsequently, two ships are required to be delivered per year. The project completion time is 84 months.
