Brahmaputra gets connected with Ganga via IBP route


A new milestone was achieved in regional connectivity when Union minister for ports, shipping and waterways SarbanandaSonowal and chief minister HimantaBiswaSarma received MV Lal Bahadur Shastri, the cargo vessel carrying 200 metric tonnes of foodgrain from Patna, by traversing 2,350 km through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol (IBP) route.

The vessel arrived in Pandu port on Sunday morning carrying foodgrains for FCI.

The vessel passed through Bhagalpur, Manihari, Sahibganj, Farakka, Tribeni, Kolkata, Haldia, Hemnagar, IBP route through Khulna, Narayanganj, Sirajganj, Chilmari and then National Waterway-2 through Dhubri and Jogighopa. The journey of the vessel was flagged off by Sonowal from Patna docks, through Ganga, which culminated its month-ago journey in Brahmaputra.




Nari Shakti of North East


The Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER), as part of AzadiKaAmritMahotsav, is celebrating a week-long campaign called ‘Nari Shakti of the North East,’ to recognize the exceptional achievements of women and girls in North East India ahead of International Women’s Day 2022.


The campaign was launched by Minister of Development of the North Eastern Region, G. Kishan Reddy.


During this ‘Nari Shakti Week,’ a range of social media activities have been planned.

MDoNER will host a virtual ‘Town Hall’ meeting where Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy will interact with MDoNER’s Women Workforce, the North Eastern Council, and other government of India departments.

Other social media campaigns will also be organized which would focus on the Ministry’s efforts to transform the lives of Nari Shakti in the North Eastern Region.




The TRAPPIST-1 star system is home to the largest batch of roughly Earth-size planets ever found outside our solar system. Discovered in 2016 some 40 light-years away, these seven rocky siblings offer a glimpse at the tremendous variety of planetary systems that likely fill the universe.


Its mass is about 9% of the Sun and its radius is slightly larger than the Jupiter. It has a surface temperature of about 2,290 °C and is about 39 light years from the Sun.

In 2016, scientists found three planets orbiting this star using the Transiting Planets and Planetesimals Small Telescope (TRAPPIST) in La Silla Observatory, Chile.

India-Sri Lanka maritime exercise SLINEX begins in Visakhapatnam

THE NINTH edition of the India-Sri Lanka bilateral maritime exercise SLINEX is underway at Visakhapatnam with an aim to enhance interoperability and improve mutual understanding between the navies of the two neighbouring countries in the strategically significant Indian Ocean Region.


SLINEX (Sri Lanka–India Naval Exercise) is being conducted in two phases. The first one, the harbour phase at Visakhapatnam on March 7 and 8, followed by the sea phase on March 9 and 10 in the Bay of Bengal.


SLINEX aims to enhance interoperability, improve mutual understanding and also exchange best practices and procedures for multi-faceted maritime operations between both navies.




India moving towards electric mobility from internal combustion engine: NHEV

A working group from National Highway for EV (NHEV) has met NitiAayog to discuss the new battery swapping policy. NHEV has been pushing for public charging stations across the country. As part of the plan, it was discussed that two of the major express highways will be getting electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers.



A proposal was discussed under which all 30 NHEV charging stations on Jaipur-Delhi and Noida-Agra e-highways are going to have 20 two-wheelers and 20 three-wheelers electric vehicles with battery-swapping technology.


Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP)


Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) is implemented by DeendayalAntyodayaYojana –National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), Ministry of Rural Development, as a sub-scheme since 2016. With an objective to support the rural poor come out of poverty, supporting them setup enterprises and provide support till the enterprises stabilize, SVEP focusses on providing self-employment opportunities with financial assistance and training in business management and soft skills while creating local community cadres for promotion of enterprises.


SVEP addresses three major pillars of rural start-ups namely – finances, incubation and skill ecosystems. Activities under SVEP are strategically designed to promote rural enterprises, one of the key areas is to develop pool of community resource persons – enterprise promotion (CRP-EP) who are local and support entrepreneurs setting-up rural enterprises. Another key area is to promote the block resource center (BRC) in SVEP blocks, to monitor and manage the community resource persons.





HANSA-NG is an advanced flying trainer. It is powered by Rotax Digital Control Engine. It has other special features like composite lightweight airframe, glass cockpit, bubble canopy with wide panoramic view, electrically operated flaps, etc.


HANSA-NG is indigenously designed and developed by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research -National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL). It is a two-seater aircraft and a revamped version of the HANSA, which was developed 30 years ago.


NMCG awarded ‘Special Jury Award’ for Ganga rejuvenation 


The 9th edition of the FICCI Water Awards were organised at the FICCI’s 7th India Industry Water Conclave, held virtually on March 02 and 03, 2022.


National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has been awarded the ‘Special Jury Award’ at the 7th India Industry Water Conclave and the 9th edition of the FICCI Water Awards.

NMCG has been awarded for its effort in reviving River Ganga and bringing about a paradigm shift in water management.
